Archer Appreciation month

Awesome banner designed by Rochelle!

One day I start a Twitter account and the next thing you know I'm involved in a sewing challenge! This one is a fun, super low key challenge, it's Archer Appreciation Month. Rochelle, myself, and some other ladies are all going to sew Archers during the month of December and Jen (the designer of Grainline) is going to do a round up on her blog in January.

Maybe you have already sewn an Archer. Keep an eye out on Jen's blog for some really cool modification ideas to take the pattern to the next level. Or if you're like me and making it for the first time then get pumped on having a stylin long sleeve shirt for the cold weather.

Check out the Grainline sale to get a discount on your pattern, add a button to your blog, join the Flickr group, and start hash tagging #archerappreciation on Instagram and Twitter.

Are you in?

Sol Hoodie

Bleh, I have so many unblogged garments that it is ridiculous. If you follow me on Instagram, then you know this (I usually share my makes there first). It all makes me think about Rachel's post about social media killing blogs...

Anyway, I have Jamie Christina's Sol Hoodie pattern to share with you today. I used this super soft sweatshirt knit paired with a little bit of this stretch canvas, both from Mood. While the fabrics were a dream to work with I'm not very happy with the finished product. The pattern instructions seemed clear and easy to follow, but I didn't care for how things were finished. Maybe I thought I understood the directions and didn't, but there are some raw edges that I hate. The leopard along the hood and the leopard on the inside of the zipper fray like crazy. I can finish the fabric along the zipper, but I'm not sure what I am going to do about the hood situation.

Once I get those problems figured out I will be very happy with the hoodie. The pattern fit right out of the package and I didn't have to make any alterations. I love the spots for the thumbs (see photo above), the fit (not too tight or too baggy), and the fact that no one else has a hoodie like me haha!

Look at me pretending to be a runner and stuff.

For my new sweater outing my husband and I went on a walk/jog with our pup on the Bob Jones trail in Avila Beach. It's a really pretty path made for bikers and runners that starts near the Buddhist temple and ends at the beach. Also, I didn't scare anyone with my makeup free face!

Besides the chalk my sweater is looking fresh! On Instagram someone said it was "swaggy." I like that!

Do you have a favorite hoodie pattern?

I'm on the Twitter and I'm going to London

I recently decided to get with the times and start a Twitter account. I'm on the Twitter! At first I was hesitant because I wasn't sure if I wanted another social networking site to keep up on, but so far I really like it. With the exception of Daniel Tosh and DeAndre Jordan I pretty much only follow fellow seamstresses. It's fun seeing what you are all up to and interacting with each other. Another plus is that I get to share mind blowing pearls of wisdom like the tweet below:

So, if you're into hearing my life changing philosophies (kidding!) then check it out.

Another item I would like to discuss with you are my travel plans. I'm going to London in December!!!!!!!!! My in laws live in Pinner and Luke and I will be making our way over there to spend time with family and of course sneak in some time with some awesome ladies I am dyinggg to meet. Rachel, Marie, Elisalex, and I will be meeting up for lunch and some shopping. If any of you other ladies would like to join us let me know and I will send you the meet up info! The more the merrier :)

Happy Wednesday!

Scout, Scout, Scout!

I know that I've mentioned it before, but I'm a jeans and Briar/Renfrew kind of girl. Even on the weekends I like wearing jeans (you can't ride on a motorcycle in a skirt), but I like having a slightly dressier top to wear around town when I'm feeling a little fancier than usual.

That is where the Scout tee comes into play. The two versions I have sewn are lawn fabrics from Mood which are perfect for this "winter" weather on the central coast of California. The weather has been in the seventies and eighties for the last month and it's not exactly sweater weather quite yet.

Selfie!

The directions for the Scout pattern are extremely straightforward and it is a quick sew. There are only a few pattern pieces which made taping the pdf download painless for a pdf hater such as myself. And at $6.50 you can't beat the price!

The recommended fabrics are light to medium weight which is the perfect excuse to try out French seams. Up until recently I had only sewn one item with French seams and it was a year and a half ago, but the tutorial that Jen posted was the perfect refresher. I even successfully finished the armholes seams using her technique! This is such an awesome revelation for someone like me that does not own a serger.

The insides are so clean! Oh, this is typically when I like to throw out the hashtag: #allfrenchseamedandshit on Instagram. Are there any other people that are into French seaming and shit?
